Dottie’s Kolaches: A Sweet and Savory Start in Heber City

The Irresistible Cinnamon Roll from Dottie’s Kolaches
Our Heber City culinary quest began at Dottie’s Kolaches, a place that had long been at the top of my personal “to-try” list. I first stumbled upon Dottie’s through a captivating Instagram feed, and from that moment, I knew I had to experience their offerings. While their namesake kolaches were the initial draw, I had also heard whispers of their legendary cinnamon rolls, adding to my anticipation. As our first stop of the day, Dottie’s had high expectations to meet, and I’m thrilled to report that it exceeded every single one.
Upon entering, the comforting aroma of freshly baked goods enveloped us. We decided to sample a diverse array of their menu, including several sweet kolaches, a uniquely crafted savory kolache, and of course, a cinnamon roll. To sweeten the deal even further, Dottie’s also proudly features Ruby Snap cookies, and we couldn’t resist grabbing one of those delightful treats as well. Each bite reaffirmed why Dottie’s has earned its stellar reputation.
The kolaches themselves were nothing short of amazing. The clear favorite among our group was the vibrant Lemon Kolache. Its light, fluffy dough, perfectly baked to a golden hue, encased a bright and tangy lemon filling that burst with refreshing flavor, creating a perfect balance of sweet and tart. Equally impressive was the savory kolache we tried, a creative combination of ham, sweet cranberry, and creamy cream cheese. This unexpected blend offered a delightful complexity, proving Dottie’s mastery in balancing diverse flavors within its tender, pillowy dough. And the cinnamon roll? It was a transcendent experience. Soft, generously spiced with aromatic cinnamon, and topped with a luscious, perfectly sweet glaze, it melted in your mouth and easily ranks among the best I’ve ever had. It’s a true masterpiece of pastry craftsmanship.
Beyond their exquisite baked goods, Dottie’s Kolaches also boasts an extensive menu of specialty sodas, ensuring there’s a refreshing beverage option for every palate. While the indoor seating area is cozy and inviting, it’s clear that the majority of their clientele appreciate the efficiency and convenience of their popular drive-thru service. Dottie’s is an essential stop for anyone visiting Heber City, whether you’re craving a sweet morning treat or a unique savory bite.

Belle’s Bakery: Artisan Pastries and Unexpected Delights in Heber City

The Heavenly Kouign Amann from Belle’s Bakery
My love for a perfectly crafted pastry is profound, yet I approach new bakeries with a cautious optimism, knowing that the experience can sometimes be hit or miss. However, the moment we stepped into Belle’s Bakery in Heber City, any reservations melted away. The atmosphere was immediately inviting – a super cute, meticulously designed space filled with the irresistible aroma of baking. The staff greeted us with genuine warmth and friendliness, and the display cases, brimming with an exquisite array of pastries, were a testament to their dedication to artisanal baking. It was evident from the start that this was going to be an extraordinary experience.
Overcome by the tempting selection, we admittedly ordered more than was strictly necessary, but not a single bite was regretted. Our focus leaned heavily towards the sweet, but we made sure to include one savory creation: a delicate puff pastry base topped with a rich butternut squash and prosciutto filling, crowned with fresh arugula. This savory pastry was quite good, particularly as you reached its flavorful, perfectly balanced center where all the components truly harmonized.
For our sweet selections, we began with a true showstopper: the Kouign Amann. If you’ve yet to discover this incredible Breton pastry, you are genuinely missing out. Imagine a puff pastry dough, generously layered with copious amounts of butter and sugar, baked until the exterior is beautifully caramelized and crisp, while the interior remains tender and rich. Each bite is a symphony of buttery, sugary crunch and soft, delicate layers – an absolutely amazing creation that Belle’s executes to perfection.
Next on our tasting journey was a S’mores Tart. While it was pleasant and certainly satisfied a sweet craving, it didn’t quite capture our hearts as much as some of the other items. It was enjoyable, but perhaps not the standout we hoped for.
The true surprise of the day, however, came in the form of their Lavender Shortbread Cookies. I had heard glowing reviews, yet I hesitated, as I’m generally not a fan of floral notes in my food. My sister, more adventurous, insisted we try one. To my absolute astonishment, I fell completely in love with that cookie. The subtle tartness of lemon beautifully complemented the buttery shortbread, and the delicate hint of lavender was not at all overpowering, but rather, a whisper of floral elegance that elevated the entire experience. It was a revelation, and I would return to Belle’s specifically for another one of these delightful cookies.
Finally, and perhaps most unexpectedly, was a last-minute addition that proved to be the grand finale: the Apple Tosca Pie. This humble yet magnificent dessert featured a comforting apple pie filling nestled within a tender brioche crust, topped with a rich, almond mixture that baked to a golden, nutty perfection. Served warm with a generous scoop of fresh whipped cream, it instantly captivated all of us. Despite its understated appearance, every member of our group agreed that the Apple Tosca Pie was the absolute highlight of our visit to Belle’s. Its perfect balance of flavors, comforting warmth, and exquisite textures made it an unforgettable treat. It was a truly surprising triumph.
A word of advice for anyone planning a visit to Belle’s Bakery: they are only open until 3 PM, or until they sell out, which happens frequently. By mid-morning during our visit, many items were already gone, a testament to their immense popularity. Arrive early to ensure you get to try all their wonderful creations!

Lola’s Street Kitchen: From Food Truck Roots to Heber City’s Savory Sensation

The Bold Jalapeno Bacon Burger from Lola’s Street Kitchen
To round off our Heber City food tour, we sought a satisfying savory meal, and a recommendation from my sister’s friend led us to Lola’s Street Kitchen. This establishment has a fascinating origin story, having started as a beloved food truck before expanding into a permanent brick-and-mortar restaurant. During our visit, we even spotted their vibrant food truck out and about, suggesting that patrons have the flexibility to enjoy their delicious offerings either at their cozy restaurant or from the convenient mobile kitchen.
After a delightful morning filled with an abundance of sweet pastries and treats, settling down for a substantial, flavorful meal at Lola’s was a welcome change of pace. We were ready for some serious savory satisfaction. Our order was a diverse spread: a robust burger, a crispy buttermilk fried chicken sandwich, a classic gyro, and to cap it all off, a slice of rich carrot cake. Each dish promised a unique experience, and Lola’s did not disappoint.
Overall, everything we tasted was truly delicious. The sandwiches, while exceptionally flavorful, presented a minor challenge as the buns tended to fall apart, making for a slightly messy but utterly enjoyable eating experience. The quality of the ingredients and the expertly cooked fillings, however, more than compensated for this small inconvenience. But if we had to pick a unanimous favorite, it would undoubtedly be the lamb gyro. The tender, perfectly seasoned lamb, nestled within a warm pita with fresh vegetables and creamy tzatziki, was an absolute triumph. Each bite was bursting with authentic flavors, transporting us with its Mediterranean essence. It was incredibly satisfying and left a lasting impression. This fantastic meal at Lola’s Street Kitchen was truly the perfect crescendo to our epic culinary journey through Heber City.
